Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department as part of the North Penn Tactical Response Team
The North Penn Tactical Response Team (NPTRT) was formed in 1982 to serve the community in high-risk situations. The team has grown from serving eleven jurisdictions which covers seventy-eight square miles with a population of over 125,000 residents. The tactical unit consists of twenty-four officers which are drawn from each jurisdiction it serves. Along with those officers there are civilian medics which serve with the team. Each member is highly trained in special weapons and tactics and is on-call twenty-four hours a day. The Team maintains itself as a specialized unit with its own command structure, vehicles and equipment. Training includes all aspects of high-risk situations to include barricaded gunman, dignitary protection and high risk warrants. The NPTRT is one of nine teams serving in Montgomery County. The following are the communities served: Franconia Township, Hatfield Township, Hatfield Borough, Lansdale Borough, Lower Salford Township, Marlborough Township, North Wales Borough, Souderton Borough, Telford Borough, Upper Gwynedd Township, Upper Perk Police District (East Greenville Borough and Pennsburg Borough).
