The Upper Gwynedd Township Emergency Manaagement Agency recently put together a brochure for residents that outlines steps that should be taken before, during and after a potential event. It is imperative for each resident to know that Emergency Management starts with you. Much of the information iN this brochure covers the preparation phase, and how to select foods, store water, or supplies needed in the event of an evactuation. Please take the time to review this brochure in its entirety and share this with your family memebrs so that everyone is on the same page. In Montgomery County, residents who may be disabled or need assistance in the event of an emergency may now register on using the following website: http://specialneedspa.org. This website will provide Emergency Responders with critical information should the need arise for an evacuation to occur. Either a resident or caretaker may signup for the registry, and the information will be securly kept, and made only available to the proper authorities within Upper Gwynedd Township. This initiative was taken on by the South Eastern Pennsylvania Task Force as a way to locate and evacute those who may be unable to assist themselves in during a major event.

Who is an individual with special needs?
An individual with special needs is someone who will require assistance in excess of that provided to the general public in a time of disaster, particularly in the event that large scale evacuation is necessary. You may have heard the termspecial needs, vulnerable populations, or individuals with access and functional needs. A family member or loved one can sign up on behalf of an individual.

Why should I sign up?
By signing up for the Registry you will let emergency responders know who you are and what type of need you have. The information you provide will be used in the planning process, as well as in post-disaster response. If a disaster occurs in your area, this registry will be used to enhance the efficiency of response agencies to serve those with specific needs.
