Snow Removal Operations Notice

Upper Gwynedd Township (UGT) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PADOT) have agreed to modify snow removal operations on State roads within UGT boundaries for the 2017/2018 winter season.  The State-owned roads in UGT are North Wales Road, Morris Road, Valley Forge Road, Welsh Road (Rt. 63), and Allentown Road.

Under a previous reimbursement agreement with PADOT, UGT assumed responsibility for salting and plowing the above-mentioned state roads.  Upon researching snow removal operations in surrounding municipalities, UGT discovered that similar reimbursement agreements were not being exercised.  A survey of Township and Public Works Managers in these municipalities revealed satisfaction with PADOT snow removal operations on state owned roads.

Given the option, UGT has decided to relinquish its snow removal responsibilities on State-owned roads back to the PADOT, except for Allentown Road.  UGT believes that this will allow its road crews to respond faster to its neighborhoods and Township-owned roads, and generally optimize UGT’s snow removal operations.

Please be advised that whenever you experience hazardous road conditions during a winter storm, do not hesitate to call 911.
