Prescribed Burn at Gwynedd Preserve

This spring, Natural Lands will be conducting a prescribed burn on meadows in the Upper Gwynedd portion of the 279-acre Gwynedd Preserve. The goal of the burn is to control invasive plant species such as Multiflora rose, Japanese honeysuckle, crabapple, and Canada thistle, while encouraging native grasses and wildflowers.

A prescribed burn is a controlled application of fire to natural fuels under appropriate weather conditions, fuel moisture, and soil moisture conditions. This will confine the fire to a predetermined area and at the same time, will produce the intensity of heat and rate of spread required to accomplish their goals. The burn will only occur if all necessary conditions are met.

The burn will be conducted anytime between today and April 30th, when weather conditions are appropriate. The burn will be conducted in the afternoon and be completed before dusk. If you have any concerns, questions, or wish to be notified individually the day of the burn, please contact Tom Kershner, Preseve Manager at 610-353-5587 extension 503.
